Under the agreement, which is effective from the date of signing, the Group will finance, develop, build and operate the Keni\u00e9 hydro-electric dam located in Baguin\u00e9da on the Niger River, 35km east of Bamako.<\/p>\n<p>This agreement represents an important step forward for the Eranove Group. The Group\u2019s managing duo of Vincent Le Guennou, Co-CEO of Emerging Capital Partners (ECP) and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Eranove Group, and Marc Alb\u00e9rola, CEO of the Eranove Group, made the trip to Bamako in Mali, specifically to get the project up and running.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4754 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eranove.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/eranove-engagement-mali-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.eranove.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/eranove-engagement-mali-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.eranove.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/eranove-engagement-mali-768x508.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.eranove.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/eranove-engagement-mali.jpg 801w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>The signing of the concession agreement is likewise an important move for the Republic of Mali. According to World Bank estimates, the country\u2019s current installed power capacity of approximately 414MW covers only half of potential demand. The Keni\u00e9 hydro-electric facility, with its installed capacity of 42MW, will help Mali respond to this energy challenge. Initial simulations suggest that the Keni\u00e9 dam could produce around 175GWh, which is equivalent to the average annual consumption of 175,000 households. What is more, the structure will enable Mali to make better use of its hydro-electric potential and thus reduce its dependence on imported hydrocarbons.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith an estimated potential of 400,000MW, hydro-electric power is one renewable energy source that is in abundant supply in Africa.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the regional integration of power transmission networks, hydro-electricity can play a key role in increasing power generation capacity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd we mustn\u2019t forget micro and pico hydro-electricity either. These small hydro-electric facilities can supply power to villages or groups of villages in remote areas far away from interconnected transmission systems. Hydro-electricity is a renewable and competitive source of power in terms of production costs, and could even play a role in the financial balancing of power sectors and in meeting demand. This would prove hugely beneficial both for local populations and for regional industrial development,\u201d assessed Marc Alb\u00e9rola, CEO of the Eranove Group.<\/p>\n<p>The signing of the concession agreement comes after several years of cooperation between the Republic of Mali\u2019s Ministry of Energy and Water and IFC InfraVentures. IFC is a member of the World Bank Group and is the largest global development institution focused exclusively on the private sector in developing countries. Working together, these institutions conducted preliminary feasibility studies followed by an international call for tenders, which resulted in the selection of the Eranove Group as a strategic partner.<\/p>\n<p>According to the current project schedule, construction is due to begin in 2016 and the dam would be put into operation in 2020. The dam will then be operated under a concession agreement by Keni\u00e9 Energie Renouvelable, a new subsidiary of the Eranove Group, whose shareholders will also include IFC InfraVentures.<\/p>\n<p>Supported by Emerging Capital Partners (ECP), a pan-African leader in private equity investment that has raised more than US$2.5 billion in assets for the continent, the Eranove Group is embarking on a new stage in its pan-African development.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to its operations in Mali, the Eranove Group already has a historic presence in Senegal, through water distribution company SDE, and in C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire, via electricity companies CIE and CIPREL, water distribution company SODECI and AWALE.<\/p>\n<p>Operating more than 1,100MW of power generation facilities in C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire, the Eranove Group currently accounts for nearly 70 percent of the country\u2019s installed capacity and invests in a number of projects. CIE mainly operates six hydro-electric dams generating 604MW of power with high availability rates.<\/p>\n<p>The Eranove Group has fronted and coordinated one of the biggest infrastructure investments in C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire in recent years, in the form of the CIPREL power plant (EUR 343 million). Dans le cadre d\u2019une int\u00e9gration r\u00e9gionale des r\u00e9seaux de transport \u00e9lectrique, l\u2019hydro-\u00e9lectrique peut jouer un r\u00f4le cl\u00e9 dans l\u2019accroissement des capacit\u00e9s de production \u00e9lectrique. Il ne faut pas non plus oublier la micro ou la pico hydro\u00e9lectricit\u00e9\u00a0: ce sont des am\u00e9nagements hydro\u00e9lectriques de petite taille qui peuvent apporter de l\u2019\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 pour des villages ou des groupes de villages dans des zones \u00e9loign\u00e9es des r\u00e9seaux interconnect\u00e9s.\u00a0\u00bb<\/em><\/p><p><em>\u00ab\u00a0L\u2019hydro\u00e9lectricit\u00e9, \u00e9nergie renouvelable, avec son co\u00fbt comp\u00e9titif, est \u00e0 m\u00eame de contribuer \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9quilibre financier des secteurs \u00e9lectriques et satisfaire la demande au grand b\u00e9n\u00e9fice des populations et du d\u00e9veloppement industriel r\u00e9gional.\u00bb<\/em>, d\u00e9crypte Marc Alb\u00e9rola, directeur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral du Groupe Eranove.<\/p><p>La signature de la convention fait suite \u00e0 plusieurs ann\u00e9es de travail entre le Minist\u00e8re de l\u2019\u00c9nergie et de l\u2019Eau de la R\u00e9publique du Mali et IFC InfraVentures, (IFC, membre du Groupe de la Banque mondiale, la principale institution internationale de d\u00e9veloppement au service du secteur priv\u00e9 dans les pays en d\u00e9veloppement) qui ont ensemble r\u00e9alis\u00e9 les \u00e9tudes pr\u00e9liminaires de faisabilit\u00e9 suivies d\u2019un appel d\u2019offres international qui a abouti \u00e0 la s\u00e9lection du Groupe Eranove en qualit\u00e9 de partenaire strat\u00e9gique.
